At the end of the Spring 2020 term, I ended thiry years of teaching at UNCA and became an Emeritus Professor of Computer Science.
My primary interests were embedded systems and computer networking, and I taught courses in both the Computer Science and Engineering programs. While at UNC Asheville, I also developed and taught professional week-long courses for IBM and Digital Equipment Corporation (now part of Hewlett-Packard) on Unix system administration.
I was an undergraduate at Duke University, with a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science. I obtained my Ph.D. in Computer Science at MIT, where I worked with the dataflow computer architecture group.
Since the Spring 1984 semester, I have keep almost all my course information, handouts, homeworks, and exams, on-line. These are available via my class handout index.
I have a son and daughter and am married to Rebecca Bruce, who is a Professor of Computer Science at UNC Asheville.
I enjoy music and play the piano and ukelele.
